Marangaroo is an established residential suburb about 16 kilometres north of the Perth CBD within the City of Wanneroo, bounded by Wanneroo Road, Hepburn Avenue, Mirrabooka Avenue, and Marangaroo Drive. The suburb name was approved on 13 June 1973 and comes from an Aboriginal word meaning “blue flowers”, documented in Sydney J Endacott’s 1932 compilation of Australian Aboriginal place names. The suburb developed through the 1970s and 1980s as part of Perth’s northern metropolitan expansion, transforming the original banksia bushland and grazing land into residential estates.
