Lockridge is a north-eastern suburb about 13 kilometres north-east of the Perth CBD within the City of Swan, sitting between Eden Hill, Kiara, Beechboro, and Caversham. The suburb takes its name from Lockeridge House, a property built by Samuel Hamersley (son of Edward Hamersley) in 1874 – Edward Hamersley was first granted land in the area in 1837. The Hamersley family was prominent in colonial Western Australia, holding multiple Swan Valley properties including the original Pyrton estate in modern-day Eden Hill. Part of what is now Lockridge became the Pyrton Estate, purchased by the Western Australian Government and developed for soldier settlement in the 1920s following World War I. Major residential development in Lockridge commenced in 1969 when the State Housing Commission purchased 240 acres for planned subdivision – making Lockridge predominantly a 1970s and 1980s residential suburb. The area sits adjacent to the Swan River and the Swan Valley wine and produce region. Local amenities include Rosher Park, the Alice Daveron Community Centre, Kiara College, and Lockridge Primary School. The Reid Highway provides east-west access and the Tonkin Highway corridor runs to the east. The Swan Active Beechboro recreation centre is nearby. Most Lockridge homes are 1970s and 1980s State Housing Commission and private builds on standard suburban blocks, with significant pockets of public housing alongside renovated and infill properties.
