Eden Hill is a north-eastern suburb about 11 kilometres north-east of the Perth CBD within the Town of Bassendean, surrounded by Bassendean, Lockridge, Morley, and Bayswater. The origin of the suburb name is unknown – either coming from a farm in the area or from an estate name used by Henry Brockman when he subdivided the area in 1892. The suburb name was officially approved in 1954. The Hamersleys were a prominent colonial family who held multiple properties in the Swan Valley including the original Lockridge estate. Eden Hill developed primarily through the 1950s and 1960s as the State Housing Commission delivered substantial post-war residential subdivision. The area sits on the Bassendean Dunes soil system. Eden Hill Primary School, Cyril Jackson Senior Campus (a specialised post-high school education facility for pre-university and adult students, established 1962 as Cyril Jackson Senior High School and converted in 1990), and local shopping precincts serve the community. The Swan Active Beechboro recreation centre is a short drive away. Most Eden Hill homes are 1950s and 1960s State Housing Commission and private builds on standard suburban blocks, with many properties retaining the original mid-century character alongside more recent renovations and infill.
