Burswood is an inner south-eastern suburb about 3 kilometres east of the Perth CBD within the Town of Victoria Park, sitting on a peninsula in the Swan River immediately across the river from the CBD. The suburb takes its name from the original Burrswood estate – in 1829 Henry Camfield emigrated from England with two indentured servants and their families, and was granted 1,000 acres of land opposite Claisebrook, which he named Burrswood after his father’s farm near Groombridge in Kent.
