Stirling sits about 10 kilometres north of the Perth CBD along the Mitchell Freeway, within the City of Stirling. The suburb is named after James Stirling, the first Western Australian governor (1829-1838), with the name approved in April 1976 at the request of the council – the area was part of Balcatta before that.
